I was born and raised in Minnesota. I went to the University of Oregon for undergraduate school where I majored in chemistry. I loved (and still love) science, so I took the next year and worked as a research chemist. That was when I noticed that I was missing people. So, how do you combine science and people? I went to medical school, again at the University of Oregon. That turned out to be a great choice for me, because I really love medicine.

The next choice for me was a specialty. I was particularly drawn to children, because children change so much and they are so adaptable. Again, a great choice for me which I have never regretted.

I migrated down to Stanford for my pediatric residency, and was exposed to an incredible diversity of specialties that one finds in a major, tertiary center. What to do? I love science, I love specialties - but I still need people.

So, here is how I have solved my problem. I work part time at Bayside, practicing primary care pediatrics, using science and being with people. My other job is at the neonatal intensive care unit at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. It's still science, and it's still people, but these little ones don't talk so much. For me, so far, it is a pretty good way to practice medicine in various ways. I am just at the start of my medical career, and so far, I am finding my contact with you, our patients, very exciting and satisfying.

I live in Marin with my husband, who is an internist, and I take full advantage of beautiful Marin. I garden, and I take long walks to the ocean.
